Chris Amon

Name: Chris Amon

Nationality: New Zealand

Date of birth: July 20, 1943 - Bulls

The son of a New Zealand farmer, Amon cut his teeth on a variety of elderly racing cars in his native land - including a Maserati 250F - before being picked to come to Europe by F1 team boss Reg Parnell. He made his Grand Prix debut at Spa in June '63 at the wheel of a Parnell Racing Lola and had an in-and-out F1 career up until the start of 1967 when he was signed by Ferrari. Chris stayed with the Italian team for three years but never managed to win a Grand Prix. He switched to the fledgeling March team in 1970, thence to the French Matra squad the following year, but the story was always the same. Amon's career eventually stalled for good in the mid-1970s and he returned to New Zealand and the farming business.
